UNIVERSITY OF PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND
The University of Prince Edward Island is a leader in experiential learning, helping students reach their full potential as future leaders on PEI, across Canada, and world-wide. Over its 200-year history, UPEI has grown significantly in its student numbers and the variety of its programs.
Students choose from undergraduate programs in the faculties of Arts, Business, Education, Nursing, Science, Sustainable Design Engineering, and Veterinary Medicine, while the Faculty of Graduate Studies offers exceptional graduate programs in all faculties. In 2021, the University created its ninth faculty, the Faculty of Climate Change and Environment.
Through experiential learning opportunities, students gain knowledge and practical experience that will help them in their professional careers. For example, the School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences’ analytics program, with specializations in data or business analytics, offers students employment opportunities in a variety of fields including government, technology, and business. The Faculty of Arts’ diversity and social justice studies program prepares students for careers in diverse fields, including law, administration, non-profit organizations and NGOs, social work, education, health professions, life sciences, academia, government service, business, counselling, journalism, leisure and recreation, and library science, among others. The Faculty of Climate Change and Environment brings together two programs with related subject matter and objectives—applied climate change and adaptation, and environmental studies. Graduates will find opportunities in many fields, ranging from environmental management, conservation, and law, to ecotourism, climate change adaptation, and sustainability planning. The creation of the new faculty and the establishment of the Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation, expected to open in 2021 in eastern PEI, further enhance UPEI’s role as a leader in the developing field of climate change and adaptation.
The student experience at UPEI is strengthened by strong learning supports, close professor-student interaction, an increasingly diverse student population, and opportunities for collaborative research at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
