EMILY CARR UNIVERSITY OF ART + DESIGN

Emily Carr University of Art + Design

Named after the legendary landscape painter of the Pacific Northwest, Emily Carr University of Art + Design is more than a world-class centre for fine arts education. The university offers undergraduate degrees in art, media and design, as well as graduate degrees and continuing studies programs. Each concentration aims for a healthy mix of in-studio learning and theory. In 2020 and 2021, it was ranked the top university in Canada to study art and design by QS World University Rankings.

Facilities include a motion-capture and visualization lab, digital and cell animation studio, sound mixing studios and a wearables and interactive products studio. ECU is one of the few institutions in Canada with full stereoscopic 3D film and animation equipment. The campus, located in False Creek Flats, is on the Central Valley Greenway, a 24-km pedestrian and cyclist route. Bike lockups, showers and locker facilities are available on campus. It includes a number of gallery spaces where students can curate and exhibit their work, and a 400-seat theatre that hosts film screenings, speaker series, and other events. The annual exhibition by graduating students, The Show, is a campus-wide public exhibition showcasing work from every discipline.
